Data input, data management

  • How are data entered in LUMsearch (options and documentation)
  1. Input tool (DMS)
    Using data management software specially developed by DIAL (DMS), data can be entered into a ready-made database via a user-friendly interface for LUMsearch
  2. XML import interface
    Luminaire manufacturers who would like to use input tools which have not been developed by DIAL can make their data available quite easily via an XML interface. If you need documentation about this, just contact us.

  • Are data updated automatically with the DIALux plugIn?
  1. No. DIALux and LUMsearch are two completely independent products. LUMsearch can however be updated via the DIALux DXB databases. This means that, when a new DXB becomes available, we can update LUMsearch, too.


  • Search criteria
    LUMsearch provides numerous new and clever search criteria. Over 20 different groupings with different criteria guarantee quick and accurate product searches.You will find a complete list of the new criteria with specifications in the description of the XML import interface.

  • Marketing benefits with  LUMsearch
  1. Greatly extended user group. LUMsearch will include not only likely planning data but also decorative products for private applications. Thus LUMsearch is of interest to anyone who needs luminaires.
  2. New search criteria find the required product quickly and easily.
  3. Possibility to contact the manufacturer directly.
  4. For DIALux partners there is an interface to DIALux so that luminaires can be used immediately for planning purposes.


  • Does LUMsearch replace DIALux plugIns?
  1. LUMsearch and DIALux are two different worlds and this will remain so.
  2. A DIALux plugIn provides an individual presentation of the brand. Something like a good brand store (Apple store)
  3. LUMsearch supplies something like an “Who supplies what“. Often it makes sense to have a link into the world of the manufacturers. For certain products this is even very necessary since they can be configured individually. If DIALux is a brand store, then LUMsearch is a supermarket.
  4. The brand specification will also be taken into consideration in future developments of LUMsearch.


  • Are prices included in LUMsearch?
  1. Manufacturers can decide for themselves. Sorting according to prices is not planned at present. The reason is that the main emphasis should not be on the price since the differences in quality would then be pushed into the background.
  • How is a link-up to the luminaire manufacturer established?
  1. After completing his product search the user can send an email inquiry to the manufacturer directly from LUMsearch.
  2. Link to the manufacturer’s website via the logo.


Strategical aspects

DIAL is offering each luminaire manufacturer a test phase free of charge until 31.07.2012. During this time all the relevant luminaire data can be entered into LUMsearch in the absence of any time pressure.

You are then free to decide how to proceed after this date. Just let us know before the test phase finishes whether we should switch of your data or whether you wish to continue using LUMsearch as a marketing tool.
