9000 kilometres – from Hong Kong to Lüdenscheid for professional lighting design

Professional lighting design is a powerful instrument for influencing man's feeling of well-being and the quality of a room. That is why all over the world experts are dealing with the question of how to actually plan good light.

The English-speaking seminar »Expert for Lighting Design« took place at DIAL for the very first time in the middle of October. Participants from 6 different countries came to Lüdenscheid to learn in an intensive seminar how to plan perfect light which goes beyond the mere observation of norms and energy efficiency. For one week participants from Egypt, France, Canada, India , Columbia and Lithuania worked on real projects in intensive workshops. During this time the following questions were addressed: How do you analyse architecture? How do you take the utilization of the building/space into consideration? And what about people's needs? The participants were trained in all stages of lighting design, from the first concept to its presentation and implementation. In DIAL's own laboratory they themselves could experience directly the effect of light. Three of the participants have reported back to us on their experience during the week's training.

Nour Shebita

Nour Shebita from Egypt is an electrical engineer and is the second generation responsible for a family-owned company in Egypt/Cairo. »Fifteen years ago I had already been to DIAL for the first time and attended a KNX course. I saw the seminar »Expert for Lighting Design« on the homepage. It takes place in English, which is good for me. This seminar passes on expert knowledge, is professional, comprehensive and  really gets to the point.«

Greg Stechichin

Greg Stechichin comes from Canada and at present lives in Basel, Switzerland. He is an electrical engineer engaged in the field of lighting. »I knew DIALux and found my way to DIAL's website. I was looking for a course which would help me to improve my skills in lighting design. The »Expert for Lighting Design« seminar fitted in with what I was looking for. I found the practical stages with hands-on experience in the lighting laboratory and the many examples of projects particularly good.«

Vikram Kalra

Vikram Kalra from India lives in Hong Kong. His main activity is in the sale of luminaires but he also offers lighting design concepts for architects. It was third time that he had attended a seminar at DIAL. In the past he had already attended the training courses for DIALux 4 and DIALux evo. »The highlights for me were stepping back and thinking carefully about the presentation concept for the clients rather than doing just an intensive calculation based on norms, thinking about the concept in a more fundamental way and then seeing the concept being delivered on the software afterwards.«

All dates for the seminar »Expert for Lighting Design« appear here. The courses in English and German not only take place in Lüdenscheid but now also in Zurich.
